At a Creative Workshop of Young Choreographers of the Mariinsky Theatre Yury Smekalov introduced the third part of the ballet Orpheus and Eurydice, a dramatic story of the sad love to "The Rock" and "Isle of the Dead" by Sergei Rachmaninoff. The space of the myth is created by a theater designer Andrei Sevbo. Choreography by Yury Smekalov is rather intensional for a contemporary ballet. Smekalov tells a well-known story of death and an unsuccessful rescue of Eurydice in details, with lots of plastic emotions and sensually. Harmony of ancient Greek lines caugh by the choreographer, the rhythm of the plot is presented by the best artists of the Mariinsky Theatre. The company premier Vladimir Shklyarov performs Orpheus and clearly shows suffering, struggle, hope and despair of his hero. A premiere show was a great success, critics immediately left positive feedbacks. It is obvious that this part will grow into the ballet of an epic range.
